FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about the Pomodoro Technique, how to use this timer, and study session best practices.

What is the Pomodoro Technique?

The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method where you work in focused 25-minute intervals (called "Pomodoros") separated by short 5-minute breaks. After four Pomodoros, you take a longer break of 15–30 minutes.

Why 25 minutes?

25 minutes is long enough to make meaningful progress on a task but short enough to maintain intense focus without mental fatigue. The fixed endpoint also reduces procrastination because starting feels less daunting.

Can I change the timer length?

Yes. Use the settings panel to adjust the work session length and break length to whatever works best for you. Some people prefer 50-minute sessions with 10-minute breaks.

Does the timer work if I switch tabs?

Yes. The timer continues running in the background even if you switch to another tab or window. You will hear the bell sound (if enabled) when a session ends.

How many Pomodoros should I do per day?

Most people find 8–12 Pomodoros (3–5 hours of focused work) sustainable in a study day. Quality matters more than quantity — protect your sessions from distractions.

What should I do during breaks?

Step away from your screen, stretch, walk around, or get water. Avoid checking social media during short breaks — activities that engage the same attention networks interfere with mental recovery.

Should I reset the timer if I get interrupted?

If the interruption is unavoidable and takes more than a minute or two, reset the timer and start the Pomodoro over. The technique works best when sessions are truly uninterrupted.

How does Testopia work with the Pomodoro Technique?
